I don’t often recommend movies. Actually, this might be the first time. But this is one you don’t want to let slip you by.

Whiplash is a great example of what it looks like to practice resilience.

To never give up.

To believe in yourself.

Warren Macdonald

One catastrophic moment redefined Warren’s life in April 1997 with a freak rock fall on a remote Australian island that left him pinned under a one-ton boulder. For two days he lay trapped and alone, surviving the ordeal only to lose both legs at mid thigh.

Doctors told him he’d never walk again. Warren’s response: “I don’t recall them saying anything about cycling, kayaking, or climbing mountains…” Just ten months later he scaled Cradle Mountain, and in February 2003 Warren became the first double above-knee amputee to reach the summit of Africa’s tallest peak, Mt Kilimanjaro.

Born in Melbourne, Australia; Warren lives in Canmore, Alberta (an hour from Calgary, 20 minutes from Banff National Park) in the Canadian Rockies with his partner Margo.

    Hi Warren,

After watching the very disturbing trailer, ( which I was going to stop), I read this comment (below). This was enough to say it’s too much for my mind to take in – abuse …Grew up on too much – sadly.
Sorry, guess we’ ll agree to disagree on the motive of this movie. And I am a movie watcher. No cable TV for me & our family (kids now grown).

    The best,
    Cheers, Sheila Paul

Just read the Wikipedia entry. “The New Yorker” criticized this movie as “[honoring] neither jazz nor cinema” and, after reading the plot synopsis, I can certainly see why. Spoiler: this isn’t a story about overcoming adversity, this is a story of a severely misguided kid trying to win the approval of some abusive asshole that does not care about him.?
